Biographical Information[edit]
Ryan Long has pitched in the minors and for the Great Britain national team.
Long was 8-1 with a 0.45 ERA and hit .440 as a high school senior, winning All-State honors. [1] He was 0-1 with a 15.43 ERA as a college freshman but improved to 6-1, 2.67 as a sophomore. He was 2-0 with a 4.18 ERA as a junior. With the 2021 Cotuit Kettleers, he was 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA.
He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 17th round of the 2021 Amateur Draft (the scout was Rich Amaral [2], and he had a 9.00 ERA in 3 games for the FCL Orioles Orange and a 6.00 ERA in 2 games for the FCL Orioles Black in his first season. He went 7-5 with a save and a 3.10 ERA for the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2022, and he represented Britain in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Long allowed a solo shot to Kyle Schwarber in 1 2/3 innings against the USA (striking out Mike Trout), and he pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings against Mexico with a strikeout of Jarren Duran. He led Britain in IP for the WBC. [3]
He went 3-3 with a 2.52 ERA for the Aberdeen IronBirds in 2023, but he struggled with the Bowie Baysox as his ERA was 6.51 in 12 games. Long went 0-6 with a 5.03 ERA in 24 appearances for the Baysox in 2024, and he also pitched 4 2/3 innings with 7 runs allowed for the AAA Norfolk Tides.
