Biographical Information

Left-handed pitcher Brandon Clarke was considered one of the top prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization when he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals along with Richard Fitts in return for veteran starting pitcher Sonny Gray on November 25, 2025.

Clarke was drafted by the Red Sox in the 5th round of the 2024 amateur draft out of a junior college in Florida, where he had gone after first enrolling at the University of Alabama but failing to get on the field due to a thoracic injury. He started his professional career in 2025 by making 14 starts between the Class A Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League and the High-A Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League. His record was 0-3 as he was never allowed to pitch deeply into games, being limited to 38 innings. However, in spite of an ERA of 4.97, he showed some strong stuff, allowing just 17 hits and striking out 60 batters. That stuff included a fastball that sometimes touched 100 mph, and an excellent slider. He still needed work on his control, however, as attested by 27 walks, 12 hit batsmen and 14 wild pitches.
