Binghamton University was established in 1946 as Triple Cities College of Syracuse University. In 1950 they joined the SUNY (State University of New York) system as Harpur College which they were known as through 1965. The school discontinued the program for 9 years from 1953-1961 as the team did not have a home field. Binghamton was a NCAA Division-III school before transitioning to NCAA Division-II before the 1999 baseball season. In 2001 the Bearcats again moved divisions, this time to NCAA Division I joining the short lived New York State Baseball Conference. By 2002, the rest of the school was competeing in Division-I.
