Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Jeff Montani pitched in the Baltimore Orioles system from 2001 to 2006, also pitching briefly in the independent ranks in 2006, peaking at High A. He was taken by Baltimore in the 36th round of the 2001 amateur draft.

He debuted with the Bluefield Orioles his first season, posting a 2.25 ERA in 7 appearances; he followed that up with a a 2.34 ERA and 15 saves in 30 games for Bluefield in 2002, leading the Appalachian League appearances and games finished (26), while placing second in saves (tied with Pat Neshek, one behind #1 Fernando Tadefa). In 2003, he made 58 appearances for the Delmarva Shorebirds, going 4-5 with 47 games finished, 23 saves and a 3.17 ERA. He was second in the South Atlantic League in games finished, tied with Casey Blalock, behind Jentry Beckstead's 54. The wheels fell off after that, as he posted ERAs 5.74, 6.60 and 7.24, respectively, to wrap up his Orioles career and a mark of 6.00 in 17 indy league games in 2006.

On April 12, 2006, he was the third of fourth pitchers in a combined no-hitter. Pitching for the Frederick Keys against the Salem Avalanche, he replaced Russell Petrick (who had replaced Radhames Liz) and was replaced by Casey Cahill. The Keys won 3-0.

Overall, he went 12-19 with 42 saves and a 5.03 ERA in 213 games (1 start). In 284 1/3 innings, he allowed 318 hits and 137 walks (1.600 WHIP), while striking out 239 batters.
