Biographical Information[edit]
Anthony Susac has pitched in the minors and for the Croatian national team. He is a cousin of Andrew Susac and Daniel Susac. [1]
He was 5-3 with a 2.28 ERA as a high school sophomore but missed his senior year due to elbow surgery. [2] Going on to college, he had a 4-3, 8.81 record as a freshman and 1-2, 6.08 as a sophomore. His junior year, he went 2-2 with 3 saves and a 6.59 ERA. He was 0-1 with 3 saves and a 2.92 ERA for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod League, fanning 20 in 12 1/3 IP. The Texas Rangers took him in the 8th round of the 2024 amateur draft; the scout was Patrick Perry. [3]
The right-hander was 1-0 with 9 1/3 innings (1 R, 0 ER) for the Down East Wood Ducks for a pro debut that was much better than his collegiate performance. In 2025, he was 3-5 with a save and a 5.11 ERA for the Hub City Spartanburgers, control being an issue (38 BB in 44 IP). Being of Croatian ancestry, he then joined Croatia for the 2025 European Championship. He debuted against Austria, relieving Frank Plesac in the 7th with a 1-0 lead. He struck out Sammy Hackl then got Moritz Scheicher and Jonas Kreska. Now up 2-0, he retired Justin Fürböck and Tobias Werner (K) to open the 8th but walked Elias Kreska and served up a gopher ball to Ferdinand Obed to tie it. He fanned Julian Faulhaber on 3 pitches. Croatia scored two more in the 9th then former major leaguer Asher Wojciechowski saved the win for Susac. Against the champion Netherlands, he had a 1-2-3 7th against Delano Selassa and MLB vets Didi Gregorius and Jonathan Schoop. He also pitched two shutout innings (0 H, 1 BB, 3 K) in the 11-5 7th/8th place game loss to Israel to cap a fine tourney. [4]
