Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Daniel Susac is the brother of major league catcher Andrew Susac; another brother, Matt Susac, has pitched for the Croatian national team in minor events. He is also a cousin of Anthony Susac. He was selected by the Oakland Athletics with the 19th pick of the first round of the 2022 amateur draft, out of the University of Arizona, where he hit .366 with 12 homers and 61 RBIs in 64 games in his final season. As a a freshman in 2021, he had hit .335 and played in the College World Series.

He began his professional career in 2022 with the ACL Athletics, then moved up to the Stockton Ports of the California League after just two games. He hit .298 in 27 games between the two teams. In 2023, he played 99 games for the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League and another 13 with the Midland RockHounds of the AA Texas League. His combined slash line was .301/.365/.428 with 8 homers and 62 RBIs. In 2024, he spend a full season with Midland, playing 88 games and hitting .257/.300/.434, with 12 homers and 50 RBIs. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League. In 2025, he spent the entire season in AAA with the Las Vegas Aviators, hitting .275 in 97 games, with 19 doubles, 18 homers and 68 RBIs. However, he was not added to the Athletics' 40-man roster after the season, and in the 2025 Rule V Draft he was the only position player selected in the major league portion, out of 13 selections. He was taken by the Minnesota Twins with the 4th overall pick, but they immediately flipped him to the San Francisco Giants in return for another catcher, Miguel Caraballo, in what was a pre-arranged deal.

He made the Giants' Opening Day roster in 2026, although he had to wait a week to see his first game action, doing so on April 1st when he entered a game against the San Diego Padres as a defensive replacement in the 7th inning after Jerar Encarnacion had pinch-hit for regular catcher Patrick Bailey in a 7-1 loss. He did not have a plate appearance but made good on four fielding chances and he started a double play on a grounder by Jackson Merrill to end the 8th inning. He made his first start the next day and it was a memorable one as he went 3 for 3 in a 7-2 win over the New York Mets.
