Biographical Information[edit]

Ben Abadie was a minor league player and college coach.

A New Orleans native, Abadie was a Tulane University batboy as a child and later played college ball there. He played three years in the minor leagues from 1949 to 1951. He hit well, .291/?/.426 for the 1949 Waycross Bears then .337/~.386/.476 for the 1950 Thibodaux Giants. He was 3rd in the Evangeline League in average, between Zane Skinner and Bobby Gales and 9th in slugging but his 15 errors tied for 3rd among outfielders. He wrapped up his playing career in 1951, hitting .352/?/.572 in 87 games for Thibodaux and .265/?/.368 in 25 games for the Miami Beach Flamingos to finish with a .324 career average. He returned to Tulane as their baseball coach from 1955 to 1957 and again from 1964 to 1966, posting a 70-62-1 record. He was inducted into the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.
