2012 South American Championship
The 2012 South American Championship was held from October 11 to October 21, 2011 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Argentina won their second straight title, the first time the team had accomplished that feat. They beat Ecuador 8-7 in 10 innings in the finale when 2011 MVP Javier Olmos drove in the winner off Junior Cordero; Olmos was also the winning pitcher. Juan Martín led the tourney in average (.600) and runs (6). Jacinto Cipriota was named the best infielder and led the event with 4 RBI.
Ecuador had gone unbeaten until the finale, looking for their first South American Championship title since 1966.
Peru won the Bronze Medal, topping Chile 7-5 in the Bronze Medal game.
Chile only beat Bolivia, but their loss to first-place Argentina was by only one run (5-4).
Bolivia was outscored 42-4 in going 0-4, their closest game being 7-2 against Chile.
