Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Zach Agnos was a two-way player in college at East Carolina University and in fact made the USA national team for the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week as a utility player. That year, he went 3-0, 2.31 with 3 saves in 21 games as a pitcher, and hit .330 with 7 homers and 42 RBIs in 67 games as an infielder. The Colorado Rockies drafted him in the 10th round of the 2022 amateur draft with the intention of turning him into a full-time pitcher, however.

He only appeared in one game for the ACL Rockies in 2022, but in 2023 was 5-3, 2.06 in 47 games for the Fresno Grizzlies of the California League. His 27 saves led the circuit by a wide margin and he was named a league post-season All-Star and a Rockies organizational All-Star. Her was even more dominating with the Spokane Indians at the start of the 2024 season, going 4-1, 0.73 with 10 saves in 21 outings before a promotion to the Hartford Yard Goats of the Eastern League. He continued to pitch well at the higher level, going 4-2, 1.95 in 24 games, with another 7 saves. After the season, he was named an All-Star in the Northwest League.

Having moved up the Rockies' system faster than anyone could have anticipated, he found himself in AAA with the Albuquerque Isotopes at the start of 2025 and had a 2.25 ERA with 2 saves through his first 8 games when he was called up to Denver as the 27th man for a doubleheader against the Washington Nationals on Easter Sunday, April 20th. He appeared in relief in the nitecap, throwing a scoreless inning in relief of Antonio Senzatela and Jake Bird before turning the ball over to Tyler Kinley who pitched the 9th inning of the 3-1 win. He became one of the few bright spots for the Rockies during the first months of an awful season, and was anointed the team's closer as a result: he saved four of the Rockies six wins between April 30 and June 2nd, and had an ERA of 1.50 on a team whose record was 10-50 and whose ERA was 5.60.

His brother Jake Agnos pitched in the minor leagues, as did his grandfather, George Miller. The latter was still alive, albeit in hospice care, when Zach made his big league debut and was able to watch him perform; he passed away at the end of May.
