Biographical Information[edit]

Yasuhiro Hagiwara played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 14 years.

Hagiwara was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 3rd round of the 1969 NPB draft, but he didn't get many chances as the Giants already had three star outfielders in Shigeru Takada, Isao Shibata and Toshimitsu Suetsugu. Hagiwara was 11-for-52 in 1970, and he hit .206/.267/.271 in 123 at-bats in 1971 when Suetsugu struggled that season. He went 10-for-46 in 1972, and he only got 49 at-bats combined in the next two seasons. Hagiwara collected 14 hits in 60 at-bats in 1975, and the Giants traded him to the [[Hiroshima Carp] for Susumu Omata.

The Yokohama native improved to .341/.399/.496 in 63 games in 1976, then he recorded a .228/.307/.342 batting line in 1977,. Hagiwara crushed a career-high 7 homers with a .266/.395/.500 batting line in 1980, and he slumped to .165/.264/.220 in 1981. He struggled again in 1982 as he went 4-for-29, and he was released. The Yakult Swallows signed him, but he was 0-for-8 in 1983 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Hagiwara hit .238/.327/.356 with 217 hits and 20 homers in 14 seasons in NPB.
