Biographical Information[edit]

Wataru Matsuda has pitched for the Japanese national team.

Matsuda pitched for Japan in the 2024 U-23 Baseball World Cup, pitching 3 1/3 shutout innings for the champs and saving the semifinal win over South Korea. [1] He played for Nippon Seitetsu Muroran in the industrial leagues after college, and he represented Japan in the 2025 Asian Championship. He pitched a shutout inning against Pakistan, and he collected a strikeout against Amar Mahmood. He then relieved Ryunosuke Iwamoto against South Korea, and he completed a shutout inning with a single allowed to Tae-kyung Lee. Japan beat Taiwan to win Gold.[2]
