Biographical Information

Wataru Matsuda has pitched for the Japanese national team.

Matsuda pitched for Japan in the 2024 U-23 Baseball World Cup, pitching 3 1/3 shutout innings for the champs and saving the semifinal win over South Korea. He played for Nippon Seitetsu Muroran in the industrial leagues after college, and he represented Japan in the 2025 Asian Championship. He pitched a shutout inning against Pakistan, and he collected a strikeout against Amar Mahmood. He then relieved Ryunosuke Iwamoto against South Korea, and he completed a shutout inning with a single allowed to Tae-kyung Lee. Japan beat Taiwan to win Gold.
