Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Walt Tragesser played seven seasons in the majors. He had his most major league at-bats as the starting catcher for the 1917 Boston Braves. In 1920 he had 176 at-bats backing up Mack Wheat, Zack's brother, at catcher.

He came to Cuba in 1914 with the Birmingham Barons, which played 13 games against Cuban teams.

Walt, who was born and died in Lafayette, IN, was the last player from there to come to the majors until Bob Friend in the 1950's. Active player Eric Bruntlett is also from there.
