Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Tyler Schweitzer was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 5th round of the 2022 amateur draft. Coming out of Ball State University, he had just been named to the All-Tournament team for the 2022 Mid-American Conference Tournament after finishing the season at 11-2, 2.65 in 17 games.
He began his pro career in 2023 with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers of the Carolina League and was promoted to the Winston-Salem Dash of the High-A South Atlantic League after 13 starts. He finished that first season at 7-4, 3.94 and was named an organizational All-Star. In 2024, he got another mid-season promotion, this one from Winston-Salem to the AA Birmingham Barons and went 7-9, 4.02 in 25 starts and 132 innings. In 2025, the pattern repeated itself, as a start with Birmingham turned into a mid-season move to the Charlotte Knights of the AAA International League. This time, he was used as a swingman, but had good numbers again, finishing at 8-2, 4.61 in 27 games. He was used exclusively in relief with the Barons, posting an ERA of 1.27, but with Charlotte he made 10 starts in 15 appearances, with an ERA of 7.92 in 50 innings.
He went to spring training with the White Sox in 2026 and did well, allowing 3 runs in 7 innings with 8 strikeouts. He started the year with Charlotte and made a couple of relief appearances before being called up to Chicago on April 8th. He made his debut that same day, pitching the final 1 1/3 inning of a 5-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Rate Field. He gave up a run on 2 hits and a walk.
