Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Tyler Owens was drafted out of high school by the Atlanta Braves in the 13th round of the 2019 amateur draft. He pitched in their system until the end of the 2023 season, reaching AA with the Mississippi Braves that year. On January 26, 2024, he was sent to the Texas Rangers in a trade for OF J.P. Martinez. He only spent half a season in the Rangers' system, pitching 26 times in relief for the Frisco RoughRiders of the Texas League and going 2-0, 2.80 with 8 saves. On July 28th, he and C Liam Hicks were traded to the Detroit Tigers in return for C Carson Kelly, as Detroit figured it was out of the postseason picture and traded a number of veterans at the deadline. He finished the year with 13 games for the Erie SeaWolves, going 1-3, 3.31 with 2 saves.
In 2025, he started the season pitching in AAA for the first time, with the Toledo Mud Hens of the International League. He did not set the world on fire, going 0-1, 4.50 in 12 games but was still called up to Detroit on May 1st and made his debut against the Los Angeles Angels that same day. He was the last of three pitchers in a 10-4 win, handling the 9th inning and giving up a hit but nothing else. He was eligible to come to bat in the game, after DH Riley Greene had moved to left field an inning earlier, but he would only have had to come to the plate had he coughed up the large lead he had been handed before he took the mound.
