Biographical Information[edit]
Canadian outfielder Tristan Peters was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 7th round of the 2021 amateur draft, out of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, but he was traded twice before he made his major league debut four years later.
The two trades came within a span of a few months: he first went to the San Francisco Giants on August 2, 2022, in return for P Trevor Rosenthal, and then to the Tampa Bay Rays on November 15th in return for IF Brett Wisely. Before the first trade, he was named the Midwest League Player of the Month for May while playing for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. In 2023, he hit .275/.361/.421 in 93 games for the Montgomery Biscuits of the Southern League, and in 2024, he hit .238/.344/.402 in 123 games for the Durham Bulls of the International League.
He started the 2025 season back at Durham and had an excellent first four months, hitting .282/.370/.453 in 105 games; he was the IL Player of the Month for June. He was called up to Tampa Bay on August 8th and made his big league debut that day. starting in center field against the Seattle Mariners. He went 0 for 3 in a 3-2 loss. He appeared in just 4 big league games, going 0 for 12. At Durham, he finished at .266 in 136 games, with 15 homers and 76 RBIs. He caught a career break on December 18th, when his contract was purchased by the Chicago White Sox, which meant that he went from a system overloaded with young outfielders, to one where there would be plenty of opportunities to play at the big league level.
Peters made the White Sox out of spring training in 2026, recording his first career hit on March 28th, a double off Chad Patrick of the Milwaukee Brewers. He soon found a spot in the team's regular line-up as the starting centerfielder, with occasional appearances at the two corner spots as well. His OPS+ of 127 after 66 games for a team that surprisingly found itself in first place in the AL Central made him one of the top rookies in the circuit. On June 13th, he broke up a bid for a no-hitter by Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the Los Angeles Dodgers by leading off the bottom of the 9th with a solo homer. It was Chicago's only hit in a 7-1 loss.
