Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Travis Fryman was signed as a 3rd round pick in the 1987 amateur draft by the Detroit Tigers and scout Jax Robertson. He played 13 seasons in the major leagues with the Tigers (1990-1997) and Cleveland Indians (1998-2002). For his career, Fryman hit .274/.336/.443 while appearing in 1,698 games. Baseball Reference credits Fryman with 34.4 WAR for his career. Not a Hall of Fame career, but a very nice one. In the 2008 Hall of Fame voting, only a couple of voters thought enough of Fryman to vote for him.

Fryman returned to the Indians organization in 2008 and managed the Mahoning Valley Scrappers from 2008-2010. He then spent 2011-2012 as the Indians' Minor League Infield Coordinator. Fryman moved to a front office position in 2013 as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations where he remained in 2014. He returned to managing the Scrappers for a final season in 2015. Fryman has served as a Special Assistant ever since, though his title changed from time to time. He was a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations (2016-2018), Special Assistant to Player Development, Infield (2019-2022) and Special Assistant to Player Development (2023-2026).

His brother Troy Fryman played in the minors. His son, Branden Fryman, was taken by the New York Mets in the 2019 amateur draft.
