Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Tommy Troy was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 12th overall pick of the 2023 amateur draft, out of Stanford University. While he is often referred to as a shortstop, he played more often at second base or third base in college, and this trend continued after he turned pro, as he was mainly a second baseman and occasional infielder in 2025. No matter his position, he was an outstanding hitter for the Cardinal, batting .339 and .394 in his final two seasons there, in 2022 and 2023. He even belted 17 homers and drove in 58 runs in as many games his final season. He made it to the College World Series all three years he was at Stanford.
He started his pro career in 2023, playing 4 games with the ACL Diamondbacks and another 23 with the Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League, batting .271 with 4 homers and 21 RBIs in 27 games total. In 2024, he was with the same two teams, as an injury limited him to 65 games with the Hops. He batted just .227 for them, but did a lot better in the Arizona Fall League after the season, with a .290 average and 3 homers in 27 games, capped with a participation in the Rising Stars Game.
Tommy had a breakout season in 2025, between the AA Amarillo Sod Poodles and AAA Reno Aces. In 125 games, his slash line was .289/.382/.451 with 79 runs, 15 homers and 66 RBIs. He also stole 24 bases in 29 attempts. After the season, he was named a Texas League post-season All-Star. He started the 2026 season at Reno, splitting his time between second base and the outfield, a position he was playing for the first time. In 44 games, he was hitting .307 with 3 homers and 28 RBIs when he was called up to Arizona on May 23rd when the D-Backs placed LF Lourdes Gourriel Jr. on the injured list. He made his major league debut on May 24th, starting in left field and batting 9th against the Colorado Rockies. He went 2 for 4 with 2 runs, with both hits being doubles, in a 9-1 win.
