Biographical Information[edit]
Second baseman Tim Tawa was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 11th round of the 2021 amateur draft out of Stanford University. He was just coming off an appearance in the 2021 College World Series where he was named to the All-Tournament team at second base. In high school, he had been the Gatorade Oregon Baseball Player of the Year in 2017, where he was also a pitcher and his school's quarterback on the gridiron.
He started playing in the D-Backs' minor league system in 2021 and had a bit of a disappointing season in 2022 when he ended up with a slash line of .239/.331/.369 in 118 games between the Class A Hillsboro Hops and the AA Amarillo Sod Poodles. In 2023, he spend a full season in the Texas League with Amarillo, hitting .256/.338/.461, with 21 doubles and 22 homers in 116 games. In his third season at Amarillo in 2024, he made the league's post-season All-Star team after hitting .270 in 105 games. He earned a late-season promotion to the AAA Reno Aces that season, where he hit 10 homers in 37 games, and finished with a combined line of .279/.349/.519 in 142 games, with 87 runs, 33 doubles, 31 homers, and 90 RBIs.
He started the 2025 season with Reno but was hitting .391 after 6 games when he was called up to Arizona to make his big league debut when Ketel Marte was placed on the injured list. Starting at second base and batting 9th against the Washington Nationals on April 5th, he went 1 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI in a 4-3 loss.
