Biographical Information

Tim Buss joined the Chicago Cubs in 1997 as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. He moved down to the AAA Iowa Cubs as their Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the 1998-1999 seasons. Buss spent 2000 as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the San Bernardino Stampede in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. He returned to the major league Cubs in 2001 as their Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and remained in that role through 2019. Tim Buss was well liked in the Chicago clubhouse and was known for his antics, including what are described as “eccentric spring training outfits.”[1]

When manager Joe Maddon moved to the Los Angeles Angels in 2020, he brought Buss along to be the Angels Quality Assurance Coach. Buss stayed in this role through 2022. Buss' title changed to Major League Staff Assistant in 2023 where he remained through the 2025 season. During his six year tenure with the Angels, Buss has worked under three different managers - Maddon, Phil Nevin, and Ron Washington - and one interim manager Ray Montgomery.
