Biographical Information

Takuma Kato has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Kato was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 5th round of the 2014 NPB draft; the scout was Muneo Nakada. He only played 5 games combined for the big club in his first four seasons, and he was named Chunichi's new starting catcher in 2019. Kato played 92 games with a .228/.258/.286 batting line, then Takuya Kinoshita took his spot. He was 5-for-37 in 2020, and the Dragons traded him to the Chiba Lotte Marines for Shohei Kato. Kato hit .095/.128/.171 in 57 games in 2021, and he was 1-for-9 in 2022. The Marines traded him back to the Dragons for nothing, and he was 0-for-8 in 2023. Kato won the competition for the starting catcher spot with Kinoshita in 2024, and he played 86 games with a .171/.184/.228 batting line. However, his spot was taken by rookie Yuta Ishii in 2025, and he was 15-for-64 in 47 games.
