Biographical Information[edit]
Takashi Watabe was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 6th round of the 1990 NPB draft, and he pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings in 1991. He stayed in the minors for a season, then he recorded a 2.42 ERA in 35 games in 1993. Watabe slumped to a 8.38 ERA in 24 games in 1994, then the Whales traded him with Yoshitaka Mizuo and Kenji Horie to the Orix BlueWave for Atsunori Itoh and Tomiji Iizuka. Watabe's ERA was 1.72 in 24 relief outings in 1995, and he pitched 19 games with a 4.10 ERA in 1996. He only got 2 at-bats in 1997, and he was traded to the Chiba Lotte Marines for Akihito Igarashi. However, Watabe failed to return to the top team in 1998, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Watabe was 2-5 with a 3.53 ERA, struck out 99 and pitched 147 2/3 innings in 6 seasons in NPB.
