Biographical Information[edit]

Tomiji Iizuka played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 13 years.

Iizuka was drafted by the Hankyu Braves in the 3rd round of the 1983 NPB draft, and he only played 3 games for the big club in his first season. He hit .239/.352/.565 in 29 games in 1985, and he slumped to .180/.306/.300 in 44 games in 1986. Iizuka was 2-for-18 in 1987, and he recorded a .215/.311/.323 batting line in 22 games in 1988. He only got 31 at-bats combined in the next three seasons, and he was 7-for-30 in 1992. He played 57 games with a .238/.322/.429 batting line in 1993, and he mainly stayed in the minors in 1994. Iizuka was then traded with Atsunori Itoh to the Yokohama BayStars for Yoshitaka Mizuo, Takashi Watabe and Kenji Horie, and he went 1-for-16 in 1995. He only played one game in 1996, and he announced his retirement. He then became an umpire of the Pacific League, and he worked two All-Star Games (2006 and 2015), and one Nippon Series (2013).

Overall, Iizuka hit .196/.290/.366 with 73 hits in 12 seasons in NPB.
