Biographical Information[edit]

Steven Upchurch played in the Chicago White Sox system from 2008 to 2013, peaking at High-A. He was taken by the club in the 12th round of the 2008 amateur draft.

He began as a starter, posting a 3-10 record with a 6.95 ERA in 13 starts for the Bristol White Sox in his second campaign, 2009. That year, he led the Appalachian League in losses, hits allowed (94), runs allowed (53), earned runs allowed (51) and tied for the lead in games started (with multiple pitchers) and complete games (1, tied with multiple). In 2010, he was second in the Pioneer League in innings pitched (85 2/3, behind Albert Campos' 88) and he tied multiple pitchers for second in starts with 15, behind Trey Delk's 16. By 2012, he was fully ensconced in the bullpen, and it was that year he had his best season—in 43 games (3 starts) between the Kannapolis Intimidators and Winston-Salem Dash, he went 5-2 with a 3.14 ERA.

Overall, he was 21-25 with a 4.39 ERA in 108 games (47 starts). In 361 innings, he allowed 381 hits and 105 walks (1.346 WHIP), while striking out 256 batters.
