Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Steve Hathaway began his professional career in 2013 after being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 14th round of the 2013 amateur draft. He was the first player from that round to reach the major leagues.

After a couple of stinted, mediocre campaigns to begin his career, he went 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 45 games for the Kane County Cougars and Visalia Rawhide in 2015, averaging more than a strikeout per inning. After having similar success at Double A and Triple A in 2016, he earned a promotion to the majors; on July 31st he debuted against the Los Angeles Dodgers, pitching one-third of an inning and allowing three hits and three earned runs. The big blow was a three-run home run hit by Corey Seager. He then did not allow another run in his next six appearances. He ended up making 24 appearances for the D-Backs, all in relief, with no decisions and a 4.91 ERA. After that, his career was ended by arm woes as he only made one more appearances in the pros, a relief appearance for the AA Jackson Generals in 2017, during which he gave a run in a third of an inning.
