Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Slade Caldwell was the 29th overall pick of the 2024 amateur draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks from a high school in his hometown of Jonesboro, AR. At 5' 9", he was somewhat undersized for an outfielder, but teams had been more willing to give such players a chance of late.

He only started his pro career in 2025, but did well from the get-go, as he batted .294 in his first 48 games for the Visalia Rawhide of the California League and was named to play in the 2025 Futures Game. After that, he was promoted to the Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League, where he fell to .238 in 66 games. At both stops, he was much younger that the league average, and his combined slash line in 114 games was .260/.408/.369, with 3 homers, 83 runs and 38 RBIs. He was clearly being developed as a future lead-off hitter, and his 91 walks were an excellent sign; he also stole 25 bases in 35 attempts. Following the season, he was named a Low-A All-Star by Baseball America.
