Biographical Information

Shunji Hatayama was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 2nd round of the 1989 NPB draft, and he only got 29 at-bats combined for the big club in his first four seasons. He had a 7-for-47 record in 29 games in 1994, but he only played 13 more games before the Buffaloes released him in 1996. The Hanshin Tigers signed him, and he went 1-for-7 and he announced his retirement. Hatayama later became a scout for Hanshin, signing Koji Chikamoto, Shintaro Fujinami, Shunsuke Fujikawa, Seiya Kinami, Aoi Momosaki and Yukiya Saito.
