Biographical Information[edit]
Shigeo Mizutani was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 4th round of the 1979 NPB draft, and he had a 6.90 ERA in 11 appearances in 1980. He notched 10 saves with a 5.00 ERA in 45 relief outings in 1981, and he was 3rd in the Pacific League in games (tied with Yutaka Enatsu) and 4th in saves (between Akira Kuramochi and Yoshikatsu Umezawa). Mizutani only pitched 15 games combined in the next three seasons, and the Hawks traded him to the Chunichi Dragons for Hisato Aoyama. Mizutani failed to return to the big club again, and he announced his retirement in 1985.
Overall, Mizutani went 3-3 with a 6.92 ERA, struck out 53 and pitched 95 innings in 4 seasons in NPB.
