Biographical Information[edit]
Submariner Hisato Aoyama pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.
Aoyama was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 3rd round of the 1975 NPB draft, and he went 2-7 with a 6.30 ERA in his first season. He was 6-4 with a 4.23 ERA in 1977, and he had a 1-7 record with a 5.14 ERA in 1978. Aoyama only got 8 appearances in 1979, then he recorded a 4.44 ERA in 20 appearances in 1980. He pitched 20 games again in 1981 with a 5.21 ERA, but he allowed 11 runs in 8 1/3 inning in 1982. Aoyama spent most of the next three seasons in the minors, and he was traded to the Nankai Hawks for Shigeo Mizutani. He had a 6.75 ERA in 21 games in 1986, and he announced his retirement after he recorded a 3.55 ERA in 19 appearances in 1987.
Overall, Aoyama was 14-25 with a 5.12 ERA, struck out 324 and pitched 464 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
