Biographical Information[edit]
Sam Freeman was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 32nd round of the 2008 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Joe Almaraz and made his pro debut that summer. Freeman pitched in the major leagues from 2012-2020 with various teams. Though primarily working at the major league level, he spent some time in the minors every season except 2020. Whether this was due to rehabbing injuries or poor performance is unknown. For his major league career, he went 8-7 with an ERA of 3.58 in 271 appearances. Freeman completed his playing career in 2023 with the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the independent Atlantic League.
Freeman went into coaching as a Columbia Fireflies assistant pitching coach in 2024. He was out of affiliated ball in 2025 and worked part-time as a pitching coach at the USA Baseball's 18U National Team Training Camp.[1]
