California State University, Sacramento was founded as Sacramento State College and became part of the California State University system in 1960. The present name was adopted in 1972. It is also sometimes called Sacramento State University. The school's primary athletic conference from 1996-1997 to 2025-2026 was the Big Sky Conference, but the Big Sky did not sponsor baseball.
