William Miller
Biographical Information[edit]
William Miller played for the Washington Nationals of the National Association in 1872, appearing in one game at first base. He was a local amateur player from Washington, DC, but nothing else is known about him. It is possible that he was William H.C. Miller who died in the Nation's Capital in 1938, but this has not been confirmed.
He was a phantom player for 150 years, as his playing record had been wrongly attributed to Joe Miller, who played in the National Association in 1875, but who was from the Midwest. He was also listed as the team's manager in 1872, but that was also a mistake: team captain Bill Lennon was the manager.
