Biographical Information[edit]

Ryan O'Shea pitched in the Baltimore Orioles system from 2008 to 2011, peaking at High-A. He was taken by the club in the 27th round of 2008 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of pitcher Elih Villanueva and also ahead of future stars Anthony Rendon and Sonny Gray. He was signed by scout Mike Tullier.

With the Aberdeen IronBirds in 2008, he went 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 16 relief appearances, and in 2009 with the Delmarva Shorebirds, he went 8-8 with a 3.60 ERA in 25 starts. He played for the Frederick Keys in both 2010 and 2011, going 7-8, 3.84 in 28 starts the former year and 3-6, 3.09 in 25 games (8 starts) the latter. In 2010, he led the Carolina League in walks allowed (64) and tied Nate Jones for the lead in starts. He tied Marcos Frias for second in homers allowed (17), behind Oliver Drake's 19.

Overall, O'Shea went 20-23 with a 3.53 ERA in 94 games (61 starts). In 387 innings, he allowed 368 hits and 149 walks (1.336 WHIP), while striking out 290 batters.
