Biographical Information

Rui Muneyama has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Muneyama represented Japan in the 2022 Haarlemse Honkbalweek, batting .143/.200/.143. The Seibu Lions, Rakuten Golden Eagles, Nippon Ham Fighters, Hiroshima Carp and Softbank Hawks selected him in the first round of the 2024 NPB draft, and the Golden Eagles won the lottery for the rights to him; the scout was Yoshinori Okihara. Watanabe debuted against the Orix Buffaloes on the opening day of the 2025 season, and he got his first hit against Andres Machado. He was selected into the 2025 NPB All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-1 in Game 1. Muneyama then went 2-for-3 with a RBI single against Shoki Murakami in Game 2. He ended up hitting .260/.289/.340 with 19 doubles in his rookie year, and he led the Pacific League with 9 sacrifice flies. He won the Best Nine at shortstop, and he gained 45 votes in the PL Rookie of the Year voting; he was 3rd behind Misho Nishikawa and Kota Tatsu.
