Biographical Information[edit]
“I always wanted to play pro ball. I realized my dream. Unfortunately, it didn’t last as long as I would have liked. But nevertheless, I was there. In the majors everything was first class all the way. In the minors you had to put up with those long bus rides through the South — maybe 10 or 14 hours on a bus. And they only gave us a few dollars for meals. So you had to eat at a greasy spoon. It was the best you could do. But it still seems worth it.” - Pete Cimino
Playing for Bristol (PA) High School in Pennsylvania in 1960, Pete Cimino scored 114 points in a single basketball game. This is the all-time record for a Pennsylvania high school basketball game, 22 ahead of second best and 24 ahead of third best, Wilt Chamberlain. He also threw a perfect game for the baseball team and signed for a reported $12,000 bonus in June with the Washington Senators. Cimino made 86 big league appearances, with the Minnesota Twins and California Angels, compiling a 5-8, 3.07 record and 139 strikeouts in 161 innings.
