Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Pat Cline played in the minor leagues from 1993 to 2000. Though he was once a Baseball America top-100 prospect (#72 in 1997) and spent part or all of four seasons at Triple-A, he never ascended to the majors.

He was taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 6th round of the 1993 amateur draft, one pick after pitcher Brian Moehler. He was signed by scout Joe Housey. He had three seasons of particular note including 1995, 1996 and 1998. In 1995, he hit .272/.377/.441 with 13 home runs and 77 RBI in 112 games for the Rockford Cubbies and in 1994, he hit .279/.373/.475 with 17 home runs and 76 RBI in 124 games for the Daytona Cubs. In 1998, his first full season at Triple-A, he hit .281/.346/.434 with 13 home runs and 60 RBI in 122 games for the Iowa Cubs. He had reached Triple-A for the first time the previous year (27 G, .221 BA).

In 1995, he was named the #6 prospect in the Midwest League by league managers. In 1996, Baseball America ranked him the #5 prospect in the Cubs chain, between Amaury Telemaco and Jason Ryan. In 1999, he was ranked the club's #7 prospect, between Kyle Lohse and Phil Norton. He played in the Arizona Fall League in 1999, hitting .286/.362/.512 with 3 home runs and 18 RBI in 26 games for the Mesa Solar Sox.

Overall, Cline hit .257/.345/.417 with 67 home runs and 341 RBI in 662 games over 8 seasons. At Triple-A, he hit .253/.320/.396 with 23 homers and 118 RBI in 261 games.
