Biographical Information[edit]

Oscar Bernard played for seven years in the minors, then became a coach. His brother Miguel Bernard has also played pro ball.

Oscar debuted with the 2001 DSL Cubs, hitting .269 as a 1B/C. He batted .252 for the same team in 2002. The next year, he hit .226/.278/.310 as a catcher for the AZL Cubs. He had 14 passed balls, leading the Arizona League. In 2004, Bernard batted .250/.276/.344 for the Boise Hawks. He produced at a .236/.296/.311 rate for the 2005 Peoria Chiefs.

Bernard moved to the pitching mound in 2006. He was 1-4 with a 4.03 ERA for the AZL Cubs and allowed five runs in three innings for Boise. In his last season as a player, 2007, he was 2-1 with a 7.40 ERA for Boise (walking 24 in 20 2/3 IP) and 1-3 with a save and a 8.10 ERA for Peoria (with 24 walks in 30 innings).

Bernard coached for the DSL Rangers in 2008-2009 and was hitting coach of the 2010-2011 AZL Rangers and 2012 Spokane Indians. He moved to the Chicago Cubs chain with the DSL Cubs in 2013-2014 and AZL Cubs in 2015. He then moved to the San Diego Padres chain as hitting coach of the Tri-City Dust Devils in 2016.
