Biographical Information[edit]

Nick McCully pitched professionally from 2009 to 2014. He was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 9th round of the 2009 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Aaron Loup. He was signed by scout Mike Juhl.

He spent a couple seasons in the Cardinals system, going 5-2 in 30 games (13 starts), though on March 24, 2011, he was given his release. On May 24, the Chicago White Sox signed him and he had some success, going 4-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 24 relief appearances for the Winston-Salem Dash, striking out 48 in 37 1/3 innings; he had a 4.00 mark on the year as a whole. He remained in the White Sox system into 2014, reaching Triple-A for the first and only time in 2013. In his lone trial at that level, he was 2-3 with a 5.66 ERA in 9 games (8 starts) for the Charlotte Knights. He was also a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star that year, going 7-3 with a 3.08 ERA in 19 games (12 starts) for the Birmingham Barons. On July 31, 2014, the White Sox released him. He latched on in independent ball to finish out the year and his career, playing for three different clubs.

At all levels, including his couple stints in the Venezuelan Winter League, McCully went 31-31 with a 4.59 ERA in 160 games (69 starts). In 502 innings, he allowed 483 hits and 199 walks (1.359 WHIP), while striking out 354 batters. In the affiliated minors, he was 29-26 with a 4.44 ERA in 144 games (60 starts).
