Biographical Information

Mike Goff played in the minor leagues and for the USA national baseball team.

Goff was drafted by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the 1984 Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign and went to college. He represented the USA in the 1985 Intercontinental Cup. He was 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA in the 1986 Amateur World Series, finishing third in ERA< behind Ming-Shan Kang and Ping-Yang Huang. The Seattle Mariners picked him in the 3rd round of the 1987 Amateur Draft, the 59th overall pick and Seattle's 3rd, after Ken Griffey Jr. and Dave Burba.

He was 5-6 with a 7.31 ERA for the Bellingham Mariners in his first season. He had a solid 0.87 ERA in 7 appearances for the San Bernardino Spirit in 1988, and he also notched 16 saves with a 4.32 ERA in 51 relief outings for the Wausau Timbers. He tied Keith Frink for second in the M's chain in games pitched, 8 behind Jay Baller, and was second in saves (3 shy of Mark Wooden). He was 6th in the Midwest League in saves, between Fernando Zarranz and Steve Olin. Goff then collected 17 saves with a 1.93 ERA and a 2-3 record in 43 games for the Spirit in 1989, and he pitched 8 games with a 3.86 ERA with the AA Williamsport Bills. Only Julio Solano (20) had more saves among Seattle's minor leaguers. He was also 5th in the California League in that department, between Joe Strong and Ray Velasquez. He recorded a 1.93 ERA in 3 games for the Spirit in 1990, and he also had a 2.45 ERA in 2 games with the Bills. He was taken in the minor league portion of the 1990 Rule V Draft but did not play again.

As a pro, he had gone 12-19 with 35 saves and a 4.36 ERA in 127 games; control was an issue as he walked 108 in 206 1/3 IP.
