Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Mike Fetters was signed as a 1st round pick in the 1986 amateur draft by the California Angels and scout Kevin Malone. Fetters made his major league debut three years later, appearing in a single game for the Angels in 1989. He continued playing in the major leagues with various organizations before concluding his career in 2004 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Over 16 major league seasons, Fetters had a 31-41 record with 100 saves and a 3.86 ERA in 620 games. He also played the most major league seasons without an at-bat.
He pitched for Team USA in the 1985 Intercontinental Cup on a staff which also included Jack McDowell, Kevin Brown and Erik Hanson and had future major leaguers at almost every position. Despite all that MLB talent, the US was just 2-5 even though the four teams to finish ahead of them combined to produce 0 future major leaguers.
In 2010, Fetters renewed his connection to the Diamondbacks organization. He was a part-time radio analyst for the Diamondbacks during the 2010-2012 seasons. In 2011, Fetters was a Special Assistant to the D'backs Executive Vice President & General Manager. The next year his position changed to Advisor to Baseball Operations and Scouting. Fetters moved to an on-field role in 2013 as the team's Quality Control Coach, a position he retained through 2016. As the Quality Control Coach, Fetters assisted the major league coaching staff in its on-field preparations and scouting meetings and worked with pitchers during spring training. In 2017, he replaced Garvin Alston as bullpen coach and stayed until the end of the 2024 season.
