Biographical Information

Mickey Rocco was the regular first baseman for the wartime Cleveland Indians from 1943 to 1945 and also played for the team in 1946.

Rocco was a long-time minor leaguer (1935-1952), hitting over 20 home runs in a season six times and sometimes also hitting over .300. He was with the Buffalo Bisons in the early 1940s and in the Pacific Coast League later that decade. Rocco was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 1946 Rule V Draft from the Los Angeles Angels.

He was also considered a good fielder.

Les Fleming was his bane. Fleming, who had been the regular first baseman in 1942, came back to take over the position from Rocco after the war. Later, Fleming became the first baseman with the San Francisco Seals in 1950 while Rocco moved to the Portland Beavers.
