Biographical Information[edit]
Michitake Takahashi was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the first round of the 1978 NPB draft after they lost the lottery for the rights to Shigekazu Mori, and he went 5-4 with a 4.15 ERA in 43 appearances in 1979. He allowed 15 runs in 10 1/3 innings in 1980, and he went 1-1 with a 4.64 ERA in 1981. Takahashi completed his first career shutout against the Hanshin Tigers on May 25, 1983, and that was the first shutout in NPB history without an assist. However, he only pitched one game in 1984 then he announced his retirement. Takahashi was the pitching coach for the Dragons in 1987, from 1992 to 1995, from 1998 to 2000 and in 2003. He coached for their minors team from 1985 to 1986, from 1988 to 1991, in 1995, from 2001 to 2002 and from 2004 to 2008. Takahashi then went to Korea, and he was the pitching coach for the LG Twins from 2011 to 2012 and for the KIA Tigers in 2013. He then coached Nagoya Sangyo University from 2016 to 2018.
