Matthew Klentak

Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Klentak has been a General Manager.

Klentak was the shortstop for Dartmouth College, helping them win two Ivy League divisional titles. He worked in the Colorado Rockies baseball operations department in 2003 then moved to Major League Baseball's Labor Relations Department (2004-2007). In 2008, he joined the Baltimore Orioles as Director of Baseball Operations. He was assistant GM for the Los Angeles Angels from 2012-2015. The Philadelphia Phillies hired him as their GM in October 2015. At age 35, he was the youngest GM in team history. He stayed until the end of the 2020 season, as the Phillies were coming off three straight disappointing season, failing to play above .500 or to take the opportunity of the expanded playoffs to play in the postseason, in spite of spending lavishly on free agents, most prominently Bryce Harper, and trading aggressively for front-line players such as J.T. Realmuto.
