Biographical Information

Masaaki Fukuya was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 4th round of the 1981 NPB draft, and he was 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA in 1982. He pitched 13 games with a 9.00 ERA in 1983, then he recorded a 5.43 ERA in 30 appearances in 1984. Fukuya struggled again in 1985 as his ERA was 6.91 in 8 games, and he had a 2.95 ERA in 12 relief outings in 1986. He allowed 14 runs in 25 1/3 innings in 1987, and he only got one appearance in 1988.The Tigers traded him with Hideaki Sato to the Kintetsu Buffaloes for Kazuya Sumitomo and Hidenori Minami, but he stayed in the minors in 1989 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Fukuya went 0-5 with a 5.50 ERA, struck out 121 and pitched 175 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
