Biographical Information

Luis Rodriguez has pitched in the minors and for the Mexican national team.

Rodriguez was signed by Chicago Cubs scouts Sergio Hernandez and Louie Eljaua in July 2017. He began his professional career with the DSL Cubs 1 in 2018, and he was 5-0 with a 0.73 ERA. He won the Dominican Summer League ERA title, .12 ahead of Luis Palacios. He was named a DSL All-Star.

He went 2-4 with a 3.61 ERA and a save in 2019 for the AZL Cubs 1, and he pitched 5 games with a 10.80 ERA for the Charros de Jalisco in 2020-2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues in the summer of '20. Rodriguez had a solid 1.73 ERA in 9 games with 2 saves for the ACL Cubs in 2021, and his ERA was 1.74 in 3 appearances for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. He pitched one game for the AAA Iowa Cubs, but he allowed 8 runs in 2 innings. Rodriguez was 6-1 with a 4.43 ERA for the Pelicans in 2022. The Houston Astros then picked him in the 4th round of the AAA phase in the 2022 Rule V Draft, and he had a 1.49 ERA in 9 games for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers and a 3.67 ERA in 7 games for the Asheville Tourists. Rodriguez slumped to 6-6 with a 5.31 ERA for the Corpus Christi Hooks, and he pitched 4 games with a 2.25 ERA for the Charros de Jalisco in the winter

The Veracruz native represented Mexico in the 2024 Premier 12. He relieved Wilmer Ríos in the 3rd inning against Puerto Rico, and he retired Juan Centeno to end that inning. Rodriguez then struck out the side against Edrick Félix, Edgardo Villegas and Yadiel Rivera, but he gave up 2 walks to Javier Vaz and Sabin Ceballos. Rodriguez got Carlos Cortés and Ezequiel Pagán, then Gerardo Reyes relieved him. He then succeeded Teddy Stankiewicz in the 5th inning against the USA, but he struggled this time. Rodriguez gave up a single to Termarr Johnson, and Chris Okey flew out. Justin Crawford then added a single, and Reyes replaced him after he walked Chandler Simpson.
