Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Edgardo Villegas has been on the Puerto Rican national team.
He hit .262/.405/.445 with 37 runs in 50 games as a freshman for the University of Miami Hurricanes in 2022. His sophomore year, he posted a .264/.419/.430 batting line with 49 runs and 42 runs in 60 games. He remained a OBP machine as a junior at .266/.425/.396 with 48 walks and 52 runs in 55 contests. He tied for 9th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in walks.
He then made the Puerto Rican national team for the 2024 Premier 12, leading off and starting in left in their opener. He drew a walk from veteran Rich Hill of Team USA, who had been playing pro ball before Villegas was even born. His first hit came the next game versus Mexico's Wilmer Ríos. [1] He also played in the 2024 U-23 Baseball World Cup that was played in China in September, earning the tournament's MVP Award. In 2025, he transferred to the University of Tampa where he hit .327 with 5 homers and 49 RBIs in 53 games. He went undrafted after completing his senior season that year.
