Biographical Information[edit]
Third baseman LuJames Groover was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2nd round of the 2023 amateur draft, out of North Carolina State University. Two years earlier, in 2021, he had started his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, but had transferred after his freshman season. Before being drafted in 2023, he had hit .332 in 57 games, with 13 homers and 50 RBIs. That batting average was the lowest of his three seasons.
He made his professional debut in 2023 with the ACL Diamondbacks Black, and also played for the ACL Diamondbacks Red and the Hillsboro Hops that year, for a total of 27 games. He hit .283m with 1 homer and 16 RBIs. In 2024, he was again with three teams, but this time it was the result of an injury forcing him to go back to the Arizona Complex League for a rehabilitation assignment of 8 games. He spent the bulk of that season with Hillsboro, then finished the year with the Amarillo Sod Poodles of the Texas League. In all, he appeared in 61 games, batting .281/.367/.474 with 10 homers and 34 RBIs. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League and appeared in the Rising Stars Game.
In 2025, he spent a full season with Amarillo in the Texas League, batting .390/.399/.434 with 12 homers and 56 RBIs. He also scored 73 runs and was named to play in the 2025 Futures Game. Following the season, he was named a league post-season All-Star. He started 2026 in AAA with the Reno Aces. He was hitting .322 after 56 games, with 3 homers and 39 RBIs, then was called up to Arizona on June 5th, taking the roster spot of José Fernandez. He made his debut that day, starting at first base against the Washington Nationals. he went 0 for 4 and also played third base before the game ended.
