Biographical Information[edit]

Leandro Cedeño has played in the minor leagues and Nippon Pro Baseball.

Cedeño signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2014, and he hit .228/.301/.359 for the DSL Cardinals in 2015. He then hit .290/.332/.472 in 2016, and he played 13 games with a .351/.359/.784 batting line for the GCL Cardinals in 2017. Cedeno crushed 14 homers with a solid .336/.419/.592 batting line for the Johnson City Cardinals in 2018. He tied for 4th in the Appalachian League in runs (47), tied for 8th with 13 doubles, was second to Wander Franco in hits, was second in dingers (one behind Chris Williams), was 5th in RBI (between Williams and Shervyen Newton), ranked 9th in average, was 10th in OBP, placed 4th in slugging (between Jonah Davis and Franco) and was 5th in OPS (between Cal Stevenson and Davis). He failed to make the league All-Star team as Williams was picked at 1B and the outfielders were Davis, Jordan Qsar and Stevenson. He hit .271/.311/.396 with 6 homers in 2019 for the Peoria Chiefs. He played for the Caribes de Anzoategui in the winter of 2020-2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues, but he struggled there as his batting line was .156/.243/.344.

The Guatire native crushed 9 homers with a .261/.318/.425 batting line for the Chiefs in 2021, and he also played 19 games with a .257/.309/.432 batting line for the Springfield Cardinals. He hit .167/.214/.250 with the Leones del Caracas in the winter, and the Arizona Diamondbacks signed him. Cedeno blasted 30 homers with a .310/.374/.563 batting line for the Amarillo Sod Poodles in 2022, and he also had a .291/.328/.436 batting line for the AAA Reno Aces in 16 games. He was among the Texas League leaders in runs (86, 3rd, behind Jordan Walker and Jack Larsen), hits (132, 7th, between Connor Hollis and Cade Marlowe), homers (1st, two more than Ryan Ward), RBI (93, 2nd, 12 behind Jake Scheiner), average (5th, between Chase Calabuig and Walker), slugging (2nd, .053 shy of Justin Dirden) and OPS (2nd, 90 behind Dirden). Among D'backs farmhands, he was third in runs (four behind Dominic Fletcher and Jordan Lawlar), 3rd in hits (behind Fletcher and Deyvison De Los Santos), 1st in home runs (four ahead of Stone Garrett) and second in RBI (one behind De Los Santos). He was named the TL All-Star first baseman. Cedeño hit .257/.313/.419 with the Leones in the winter, and the Orix Buffaloes signed him.

In his first season in Japan, Cedeño crushed 9 homers with a .244/.278/.438 in 2023 and .333/.388/.529 in the Japanese minors. His first NPB hit was off Kenya Suzuki and his first homer against Masahiro Tanaka. He hit a big two-run homer off Keisuke Sawada in the 7th inning of the 2023 PLCS final stage Game 2. He went 2-for-9 in the 2023 Nippon Series, and the Hanshin Tigers beat the Buffaloes in 7 games. He then crushed 15 homers with a .260/.320/.438 batting line in 2024 (playing mainly DH but seeing some action at 1B), and he was 8th in homers in the Pacific League (tied with Kotaro Kiyomiya). Cedeño signed with the Seibu Lions in 2025.
