Biographical Information

Kenichi Takayama represented Japan in the 1995 Asian Championship. He was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 5th round of the 1995 NPB draft, and he hit .224/.303/.345 in 33 games in 1996. Takayama had a .265/.296/.382 batting line in 1997 (the utility infielder had a career-high 75 plate appearances), and he was 3-for-27 in 1998. The Carp then traded him to the Seibu Lions for Jun Yamada, but he was hitless in 8 at-bats in 1999. He didn't return to the big club again, and he announced his retirement in 2001. Takayama then became a scout, signing Seita Maekawa, Tai Sasaki, Tsuyoshi Sato, Kanato Shimizu, Shogo Tamamura and Shodai Uchida.
