Biographical Information[edit]
Ken Dixon was signed as a 3rd round pick in the 1980 amateur draft by the Baltimore Orioles and scout Dick Bowie.
Dixon, pitching for the Baltimore Orioles in a road game against the Oakland Athletics on May 25, 1987, relieved Jack O'Connor in the 9th inning with a runner on first base, nobody out, and the Orioles leading, 4-3. The next batter, Alfredo Griffin, bunted back to the mound to move the runner over, reaching base himself when Dixon threw wildly to first base to allow the lead runner to advance to third base. After intentionally walking Carney Lansford to load the bases, Ken then struck out the next three Oakland batters to preserve the Orioles victory and record his third save of the four-game series. That would turn out to be the final save of Dixon's career and the high point of what was otherwise a forgettable final season, as Ken posted a 7-10 record, 6.43 ERA and -2.1 WAR to close out his career.
