Biographical Information[edit]

Katsuya Fukutsuka played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Fukutsuka signed with the Mainichi Orions in 1957, but he only got 17 at-bats combined in his first four seasons. He played 57 games with a .195/.215/.260 batting line in 1961, and the Orions traded him with Tameo Iio to the Hanshin Tigers for Yutaka Doi and Kazuo Takaira. Fukutsuka was 2-for-12 in 1962, and he went 2-for-9 in the 1962 Nippon Series; the Tigers lost to the Toei Flyers in 7 games. He then played 85 games with a .195/.208/.220 batting line in 1963, and he went 11-for-52 in 1964 after Yoshinori Tsuji took his spot. Fukutsuka was 0-for-4 in the 1964 Nippon Series, and the Tigers lost to the Nankai Hawks in 7 games. He then went to the Hankyu Braves, and he hit .234/.240/.290 as the backup behind Koji Okamura in 1965. Fukutsuka recorded a .207/.228/.241 batting line in 82 games in 1966, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Fukutsuka hit .210/.226/.257 with 120 hits and 3 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
